Since 1932

House of Steens has dressed Stockholm for life's largest occasions for over ninety years. Still on Odengatan. Still by hand.

Our history

A craft that was never optimised away

When Helge Steen opened his workshop in 1932, made to measure was not a luxury – it was simply how clothes came into being. Since then ready-to-wear has taken over almost everything, and what was once ordinary has become rare.

We carried on. Today we still cut tailcoats, mess jackets and suits to measure, exactly as at the start, and we hire out to those who need the garment for a single evening. What has not changed is the question we ask when you walk in: where are you going?

Because that is where it begins. The dress code decides the garment, the occasion decides the tone, and your body decides the fit. The rest is craft.

How we work

Three things we will not compromise on

Nobody leaves here in something that does not fit. If we do not have time to alter it properly before your date, we say so, rather than selling you something you will regret in the photographs.

We will disagree with you when it matters. If you ask for something that does not work for the dress code or for your build, you will hear it. Kindly, but plainly.

Everything is fitted in person. We do not ship and we offer no home delivery. Fit is decided in the fitting room, not in a cardboard box.

Today

The house carries on

House of Steens is run today by Rebecka Enér and Diana Ahmady. They hold on to what made the workshop what it is: that every garment is fitted on a person, not on a size chart.

They are also who you will meet when you come in. Arrive three weeks before your wedding and it is not a salesperson who greets you, but someone who will take it personally that the jacket sits right in the photographs.

The shop

Two floors up on Odengatan

Parquet floors, gilded mirrors and garments hung on brass. The shop occupies an old Vasastan apartment a few minutes from S:t Eriksplan, and it is deliberately not a shop you hurry through.

Come and look whenever you like during opening hours. If you want our full attention, book a time and it will all be laid out when you arrive.
